Hormone flags

The hormone question, answered first.

Every scan opens with what matters most: any ingredient linked to hormone disruption, named, with the reason it’s flagged.

  • Parabens, phthalates and UV filters are spotted the second you scan.
  • Your day adds up. Log what you use and see your hormone flags for the whole day, not one product at a time.
  • Stricter when it matters. Choose hormones, pregnancy or fertility and scoring tightens for you.

How we score

Graded by the evidence, not the scare factor.

Most scanners treat every “chemical” the same. ToxFree ranks each ingredient by what regulators and scientists have actually concluded, so a confirmed hormone disruptor never scores like a well-studied preservative.

Confirmed

Formally identified by the EU as a hormone disruptor or reproductive toxin, a known carcinogen, or banned from EU cosmetics. One is enough for Avoid.

Butylparaben, triphenyl phosphate, formaldehyde
Strong concern

Flagged by a national authority, restricted in the EU over hormone concerns, or banned by US states.

Oxybenzone, triclosan, PFAS
Suspected

Still under review, or only weak evidence so far. Shown clearly, weighted lightly.

Methylparaben, BHT, fragrance
Low concern

Mainly skin sensitivity for some people. Visible, but barely moves the score.

Linalool, phenoxyethanol

Sources include the EU endocrine-disruptor lists, EU Cosmetics Regulation bans and limits, the European Chemicals Agency, the WHO’s cancer agency (IARC), California Prop 65, FDA rulings and US state cosmetic bans.

FAQ

Questions before you download.

What counts as a hormone flag?

An ingredient that a regulator, cancer agency or major study has linked to hormone disruption, such as butylparaben, oxybenzone, triclosan, some phthalates and triphenyl phosphate. Each one comes with a plain-English reason. Flagged means linked to or suspected, not proven to harm you at the amount in one product.

How is the score worked out, and can I trust it?

Each ingredient is checked against a database graded by evidence: EU endocrine-disruptor lists, EU cosmetics bans and limits, the WHO’s cancer agency (IARC), California Prop 65, FDA rulings and US state bans. A formula, not the AI, turns those grades into a 0–10 score with a Clean, Mixed or Avoid verdict. The plain-English notes are AI-written, so treat them as a starting point and ask a professional about health decisions. See the full disclaimer.
